About this object
John Turier is a Newcastle based artist who works across many mediums and materials. His 'Song' series of sculptures were "inspirational spinoffs from a stay in Paris in 1997".
"Paris was the distillation of a lot of the sculptural elements I’d been playing with up to that point. Street corners, laneways, gardens and buildings facades carried this harmonious, seamless marriage of material variations across single form structures. Muted scales and colours, quirkiness and the patina of history were everywhere. At that time, I was also looking for a cohesive relationship between figurative bronze work and larger minimal form.
Once home, these works became part of a body of work I put together that pivoted around this Parisian inspiration." (John Turier, May 2023).
