About this object
Bevan Shepherd was born in Ballarat in 1943. He attended his first life drawing class aged 17 then commenced a secondary art-teacher training course, completing the first 2 years of his Associate Diploma of Art at the Gordon Institute of Technology in Geelong 1961-1962. In 1963 he completed his third year of art-teacher training at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, specialising in painting.
He considers the early training experiences such as life drawing and costume drawing as important and necessary in understanding form, design and composition.
His first solo exhibition was held at the Stuart Gerstman Galleries in Hawthorn in 1973 and since that time he worked as an art teacher while exhibiting regularly, including a major solo exhibition of prints in 1981 at Drummond Street Gallery.
Over his career his paintings drawings and prints have reflected his experiences, vision and feelings about the world.
