About this object
Peter Speight (1965-2012) grew up in the Hunter Valley and exhibited extensively throughout Newcastle during his short career. His artworks were highly sought after and purchased by artists and collectors alike. Speight was well known and admired for his eccentricity and creative flair among the local art scene.

Speight created works in a variety of mediums but he predominantly sculpted in wood, to which he then applied paint. His works are essentially personal but resinate with a universality that speaks to people of all ages. In 2015 Peter Speight’s work was the focus of a survey exhibition at MRAG; Peter Speight: Against Convention, 05 December 2015 - 7 February 2016. This sculpture was included in the survey exhibtion.
