About this object
English-born mixed-media artist Stephen Bird’s practice spans paint, clay and sculpture. Inherently interested in creating stories through contrasting multi-dimensional imagery, Bird plays with colour, form, surface, and tradition to intentionally confuse and subvert. Bird’s ‘Self Portrait in Studio’ features a kaleidoscope of faces with punctuating eyes and wry smiles, exuding a quiet ecstasy that leaves space for conflicting emotions and interpretations.
