About this object
Les Darcy was an Australian boxer, whose career spanned from 1910 to 1917. He was born near Maitland in 1895, and his amazing career record and boxing prowess earned him the nickname ‘The Maitland Wonder’. MRAG has a vast Les Darcy collection, celebrating and preserving the memory of the young boxing legend.
This booklet relates to the civic reception held for the unveiling ceremony of the Commemorative Plaque for Les Darcy at Melbourne Street, East Maitland. the plaque was erected by Maitland Lions Club.
This booklet was donated by Iris Darcy, wife of Joe Darcy. Joe was Les’ youngest brother and was devoted to creating a collection dedicated to his elder brother.
