About this object
Garry Shead created this series of prints based upon the Ern Malley hoax in 1940s.
The Darkening Ecliptic was a selection of poems by the poet Ern Malley published in the Angry Penguins magazine1944. Shortly after the poems were published, two Sydney poets James McAuley and Harold Stewart revealed that they had created the poems as a hoax to prove that the Melbourne literary avant-garde could not tell the difference between true poetry and concocted nonsense.
