About this object
Garry Shead created a series of works based upon the Ern Malley hoax from the1940s.
The poems of Ern Malley were created by two Sydney poets James McAuley and Harold Stewart who revealed that they had created the poems as a hoax to prove that the Melbourne literary avant-garde could not tell the difference between true poetry and concocted nonsense.
