About this object
Stephen Roach’s dream-like photography has been described as showing the “mystery of the visible”, occupying a space between human and nature, interior and exterior, past and present, reality and fantasy. Both allusive and elusive, Roach’s work often incorporates multiple images that reflect his life experiences, lived on multiple continents and often seen from the perspective of outsider. The viewer is drawn into the image, or images, piecing them together both visually and philosophically.
“Roach uses light as a painter uses paint, as a form of love towards the world breathing life into matter.” (Angharad Rixon, catalogue Rhapsody published in 2002, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery).
