Railway telephone circuit cards

About this object
This collection of small railway telephone circuit cards is an example of the communication system used on the Hunter region railway lines. These cards commonly used in signal boxes (small detached mechanical and office buildings that housed essential railway equipment and served as communication hubs) and attached to the front of a magneto telephone unit, mapping out the station circuit and call signal for various regional railway operational locations. These locations include booking offices, telegraph offices, and local exchange connections along with other signal boxes such as Maitland, Telarah, Greta, Dungog, and Newcastle. The combination of dashes and dots alongside these locations indicated to the operators the pattern of long and short pulses of the 'code ring' button on the telephone.
