About this object
William Ernest Maurice Fletcher was born in Bellbird, in the Hunter Valley, in 1924. He served in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II, later settling in Sydney where he attended East Sydney Technical College and the Julian Ashton Art School. Predominantly a painter of Australian wildflowers, Fletcher spent a year travelling with Sorlie’s tent show in 1961 and created a number of works based on that experience of circus life.
