About this object
Gregor Kregar lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand. Originally from Slovenia where he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1996, he completed a Masters of Fine Art at the University of Auckland in 1999.
Kregar works across multi-media including large scale installations of public art, video, photography and sculpture. This series of glazed ceramic sheep, dressed in rugby jerseys of various national teams, was created in 2011 to coincide with the Rugby World Cup hosted by New Zealand.
The sheep were part of Kregar's Mathew 12:12 project in which Kregar investigated the role or sheep in society, in particular in NZ where sheep are a national icon, religious symbolism, and historical depictions.
In the 2011 Rugby World Cup tournament the France team wore a blue with red trim jersey and Thierry Dusautoir wore the number 6.
