About this object
In 2022, Maitland City Council commissioned the artist Todd Fuller to create a stop motion digital animation to be projected every evening onto the Town Hall Cafe, a heritage building which is now incorporated into the Maitland Administration Centre building. The film incorporates the stories of four Maitland locals (Aunty Marge Weastell, Paul Soo , Vicki Cosentino and Tim Mallon) who have all lived, played and worked in and around the city of Maitland. Each image was drawn, rubbed away, changed and then photographed to create the animation. The resulting moving image not only illustrated the life stories of the four locals but also reflected universal themes of connection, memory, family and place.
"In a sense this animation is created about Maitland, by and with Maitland, and its also for Maitland." Todd Fuller, 2022.
The drawings from which the animation was created were then donated to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery Collection by the artist in 2023.
