Railway block indicators

About this object
Represented here are two separate Railway block indicator units, commonly referred to as block systems. These units were essential industry-specific equipment that allowed signal personnel (based at different stations) to communicate the locations of both travelling and stationary trains. The dials seen in the front windows indicated the state of the railways through an up-line and down-line, along with a sectioned scale showing if the line was closed, clear, or if there was a train occupying the track. These two block indicator units were manufactured by Tyer & Co in England circa 1900, and are from the Weston signal station, located near Kurri Kurri.
