About this object
Designed for Maitland City Council by Bunning and Madden architects, the collection consists of 6 separate 1-page hand-coloured and numbered drawings of different aspects of the plans for the Rutherford pedestrian mall, shops, library and community centre. In the 1950s and early 1960s, Rutherford became home to a growing number of light industries. At the core was the Burlington Mills. This saw expansion in the locality, and the need to create services and facilities. The design and building of the pedestrian mall and shops at Rutherford sits within this context.
